What students are learning
A CVC word follows a consonant-vowel-consonant pattern. The middle vowel usually represents its short sound, so learners can attend to each sound and blend from left to right.
CVC practice is most useful after students can identify common consonant sounds and hear the first, middle, and final sounds in a spoken word. It should combine reading and spelling so students connect print to speech in both directions.
